The DeForest Area Girls Youth Basketball Association (DAGYBA) was established in 2007 in efforts to promote the importance and value of sportsmanship, hard work, and dedication; all while having fun learning the game of basketball. DAGYBA is a non-profit organization that sponsors the 3rd grade through 8th grade girls’ basketball program in the DeForest Area School District. New players are always welcome!
Typically this time of year you would be seeing some information to sign up for DAGYBA’s 20/21 season. With everything happening we are still waiting on a number of things to fall into place.
First, we really need to understand what the schools will be implementing. This is because we need to schedule gym space for practices. The brutal reality is that if we don’t have gym space, we won’t be able to hold the season at all.
Next, we will need to monitor state and county guidance on team sports and social distancing. If they limit group settings, we will be facing yet another uphill battle.
Last, please note that BDL has not come out with any information or an update on the season. They are at the mercy of the schools holding tournaments indoors so have not made any indications on it or what the season will look like.
A survey was emailed out to current DAGYBA families to gather input on what a potential season could look like. If your daughter played for DAGYBA last season and you did not receive this email, please contact a board member as soon as possible.
Practice your shooting this off-season and make 5,000 shots by November 1st. Those who complete this challenge will receive a t-shirt, recognition at DeForest High School Varsity "Youth Night," and (more importantly) continue development as a basketball player. Girls entering 1st through 8th grade in the 2020-21 school year are eligible to participate. Click on the document below for more information.
A collection of drills and workouts that can be done from home have been added to our website.
The DAGYBA Board has one new elected member and two existing elected board members this year.
Ryan Volenberg will serve as the new Tournament and Event Coordinator, replacing Dennis Parmenter who completed his term. Jen Brandl was elected to another term to serve as the Scheduler/School Liaison. Maria Accuardi was elected to another term to serve as the Equipment Manager.
Please help congratulate our new DAGYBA Board member, Ryan Volenburg, and join us in thanking Dennis Parmenter for all he has done for DAGYBA!
The next DAGYBA Board meeting is TBD.
